The Digital Story Behind Renewable Hydrogen

Every hydrogen shipment carries a story. The H2U Platform is being developed to make that story traceable.

From the origin of the electricity to production conditions and carbon intensity, renewable hydrogen and its derivatives need a clear record of their journey. For projects entering European markets, that record must be backed by connected, verifiable data.

Our CEO, Iaroslav Kryl, presented Hydrogen Ukraine’s approach to digital certification and traceability at the Hydrogen Partnership Austria (HyPA) Advisory Board meeting in Vienna, hosted by E-Control, Austria’s national energy regulatory authority.

The H2U Platform brings together the information behind the product. Our approach combines operational data, Digital Twin technology, carbon-intensity calculations and blockchain to support RFNBO compliance and a digital product passport — connecting renewable electricity with the final hydrogen product through a traceable data chain.

Its value starts long before a shipment leaves the production site. Building traceability into project development helps identify which data must be collected, how it connects and what evidence future partners will need.

For Ukraine’s emerging hydrogen, ammonia and methanol projects, this is an essential part of preparing for the European market. Production facilities and export infrastructure need to be developed alongside the systems that demonstrate the product’s renewable credentials.

With discussions in Vienna spanning regulation, import strategies, hydrogen corridors and industrial projects already under construction, the presentation placed the H2U Platform in a practical context: how to carry reliable information across an increasingly connected hydrogen market.

Thank you to HyPA and E-Control for the opportunity to present our work and exchange perspectives on this shared challenge.
