H2U and Wien Energie develop cooperation in the field of hydrogen
The Hydrogen Ukraine (H2U) team paid a working visit to the Wien Energie office in the Austrian capital. This meeting was another step in strengthening the partnership, which has the potential to shape the new architecture of the European hydrogen market. In particular, we discussed the prospects for the development of the hydrogen sector in Ukraine and ways to integrate it into European markets.
Wien Energie, Austria’s largest energy supplier, sees Ukraine as one of its key partners in the supply of green hydrogen. For the Ukrainian side, this means the prospect of creating a stable market, and for European partners, the opportunity to obtain the renewable resource necessary for the decarbonisation of industry and energy.
Cooperation between H2U and Wien Energie began after the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin in 2024, where Ukraine’s energy transition was among the key topics.
The first stages of cooperation culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the creation and support of a complete end-to-end hydrogen value chain – the so-called ‘Ukraine-EU Hydrogen Corridor’. The document was signed by representatives of leading European and Ukrainian energy companies, including H2U and Wien Energie.
The meeting in Vienna provided an opportunity to consider models for the export of Ukrainian hydrogen and agree on areas of practical cooperation. H2U and Wien Energie plan to intensify work on the development of specific business cases that will ensure the real integration of Ukrainian green hydrogen into the European energy sector.
