H2U Renewable Hydrogen Project in Odesa Region Secures Grant from the InnovateUkraine competition, funded by UK International Development and hosted by British Embassy Kyiv
Hydrogen Ukraine and AB5 Consulting have been awarded a grant to spearhead the H2U Renewable Hydrogen Project in the Odesa Region. This grant, obtained through the InnovateUkraine, funded by UK International Development and hosted by British Embassy Kyiv, marks a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable energy initiatives in Ukraine. The launch event for the programme was held on 2 May 2024, hosted by UK Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron and Ukrainian Minister for Energy German Galushchenko.
The H2U project is set to revolutionize energy production in Ukraine by leveraging renewable sources to produce green hydrogen, a clean and versatile energy carrier. With an initial electrolysis capacity of 100 MW, the project is set to construct a renewable hydrogen plant dedicated to producing renewable electricity and green hydrogen for domestic needs and export to EU countries. The project also includes the construction of solar and wind farms with capacities of 120 MW and 80 MW respectively, in addition to assessing the feasibility of underground hydrogen storage facilities in the saline formations of the Odesa region. This approach ensures a secure energy supply capable of withstanding external disruptions.
The H2U project will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study, under the administrative lead of AB5 Consulting (UK) and technical lead of Hydrogen Ukraine (Ukraine). This feasibility study will lay the groundwork for the construction and implementation phases of the project.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which underscores the significance of our project in driving innovation and sustainability within the Ukrainian energy sector,” said Iaroslav Kryl, CEO of Hydrogen Ukraine. “This funding will enable us to accelerate our efforts towards establishing green hydrogen production and storage capabilities, contributing not only to Ukraine’s, but Europe`s energy transition and fostering a cleaner, more resilient energy future. With sincere gratitude, I also would like to acknowledge the invaluable support from the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council in achieving this milestone.”
The collaboration between Hydrogen Ukraine and AB5 Consulting exemplifies the power of partnership in advancing sustainable energy solutions. By combining expertise and resources, the consortium aims to propel the H2U project towards its goal of enhancing energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and fostering economic growth in the Odesa Region and beyond.
