Hydrogen Ukraine and SPC “Ukrpromresurs” will assess the feasibility of the Reni-Galati hydrogen pipeline

Hydrogen Ukraine has inked an agreement with SPC “Ukrpromresurs” to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of the Reni-Galati hydrogen transmission pipeline, a pivotal component of the Hydrogen Project in the Odesa region.

Ukrpromresurs is a design and engineering firm with extensive experience in various sectors. Their portfolio includes transmission pipelines, pumping stations, LNG facilities, and more. With decades of experience spanning multiple countries, including the EU, Middle East, and South Korea, Ukrpromresurs brings invaluable expertise to the evaluation and development of our pipeline.

Over the course of the next year, Ukrpromresurs is slated to undertake a comprehensive array of tasks, including engineering surveys, marketing research, risk analysis, and the preparation of crucial technical and economic indicators for the proposed pipeline.

The significance of establishing efficient hydrogen transmission infrastructure is underscored by the increasing focus on decarbonization and the shift towards renewable energy sources across Europe. Currently, Europe boasts only 16 operational hydrogen pipelines, totaling 1,564 km in length, concentrated mainly in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. However, compared to the extensive natural gas infrastructure, which includes 200,000 km of transmission pipelines and 2 mln km of distribution networks, hydrogen’s existing infrastructure remains relatively limited.

The Reni-Galati pipeline holds immense strategic importance, serving as a vital conduit for the export of Ukrainian hydrogen to European markets. With Ukrpromresurs on board, our project is poised to advance rapidly, laying the groundwork for enhanced energy cooperation with neighbouring countries.

Project funding was awarded through the InnovateUkraine, funded by UK International Development and hosted by British Embassy Kyiv.
